Mamiko Kakitsubo (b.1993, Tokyo, Japan) is a sculptor based in Tokyo.
She completed her MFA in Sculpture at Tokyo University of the Arts in 2023.
Her practice explores the materialization of ambiguous and fluid images rooted in internal experiences such as memories and emotions.
Working primarily with terracotta, she investigates its dual nature of plasticity and fragility, often combining it with fabrics and cotton to examine softness, containment, and the traces of transient presence. Through these materials, she seeks to translate intangible phenomena into sculptural forms that evoke the elusive nature of perception and memory.
Her recent exhibitions include “WALLAby” at GINZA SIX (Tokyo, 2019), “DOLLMAGE” at TIERS GALLERY by Arakawagrip (Tokyo, 2021), “The 24th Graphic ‘1_WALL’ Exhibition” (Guardian Garden, Tokyo, 2021), “UNLOGICAL 03” (MONO.LOGUES, Tokyo, 2022), “The eyes of the wind Vol.1” (Tbilisi, Georgia, 2022), the solo exhibition “それは、あなただった” (TAKU SOMETANI GALLERY, Tokyo, 2024), and duo exhibitions “em brace” (TAKU SOMETANI GALLERY, Tokyo, 2025) and “an brace” (CANDLE CAFE & Laboratory △Ⅱ, Tokyo, 2025).
She has received several awards, including the Kume Keiichiro Prize from Tokyo University of the Arts in 2019, was a finalist in the 24th Graphic “1_WALL” competition in 2021, and won the Grand Prix at the Comité Colbert Award 2022. In 2023, her work was featured as the frontispiece for Steven Millhauser’s “Shadow Play” in the literary magazine MONKEY vol.30.

1993年東京都生まれ、2023年東京藝術大学大学院美術研究科彫刻専攻を修了。
主に記憶や感情といった内的体験を起点とし、曖昧なイメージを元に制作を始める。
テラコッタを主な素材とし、その可塑性と壊れやすさという特性に着目している。
物理的な壊れやすさを作品に組み込むことで、記憶や感情の不確かさ、時間と共に風化する体験の在り方と素材の特性を結びつけている。
近年では綿や布といった包容性を持つ素材を用いることで、記憶や身体に対する「包む/守る」構造を形成し、記憶や感情の保護、あるいは不可視な痕跡の物質化を試みている。
素材に対する応答的な制作過程を通して、視覚化されにくい内的現象や「誰かの面影」といった非在的な要素にアプローチする。
